I became Senior Lecturer in Education at SMU after 11 years teaching experience in a range of schools and colleges. I have also taught languages to adults and in industry. I started working on the PGCE and MA courses at the University of Wales Swansea in 1991. I transferred to SMU in 2005. I now lecture on the PGCE primary and secondary courses with particular responsibility for modern foreign languages, the tertiary option and special educational needs. I am also involved in the M.A. course. In addition I work as a language consultant and an ESTYN section 10 and independent school inspector.

Research Interests include;

  • The role of ICT in teaching and learning a foreign language

  • Interactive approaches to learning (including SEN pupils)

  • The development of primary languages

  • The pedagogy of learning a modern foreign language with particular reference to the role of the target language and grammar.
