Howard Riley is Professor of Visual Communication and Head of the School of Research & Postgraduate Studies. He studied at Hammersmith College of Art, Coventry College of Art and the Royal College of Art. He holds a doctorate from the University of Wales for research into the practice and teaching of drawing. He has taught drawing and the history and theory of art and design in Australia and Malaysia as well as the UK, and his work has been exhibited in Australia, Finland and the UK, including the Wales Drawing Biennale touring show, 2005-6, and a series of  exhibitions with the Opus group, 2009-10-11. Riley has supervised and examined at both MPhil and PhD levels, and was a member of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Peer Review College, 2007-10. He is a co-editor of Tracey, the online journal of drawing research (www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/ac/tracey) and a member of the steering group of the National Association for Fine Art Education (www.nafae.org.uk/about/staff/Howard-Riley/) Inquiries and proposals of research, collaboration or examination in the following relevant fields are welcome:

Research interests include the pedagogy of drawing, visual semiotics, generative art (see publications at: www.generativeart.com) , multi-modality, and the relationship between drawing and dyslexia, this last topic a collaboration with members of the Royal College of Art's Drawing and Dyslexia research group.
