Period of Study

Research degrees may be Part Time or Full Time. The Minimum period of study for a full-time MPhil student is normally one year, that for a full time PhD student is normally three years. For part-time students the corresponding minimum periods of study are two and five years. A shorter period of study for a part time degree may be permissible for suitably qualified applicants.

Application Procedure

Applicants initially discuss their research interest with the Programme Director, and following enrolment applicants seek registration. Students are required to complete a research proposal application form (RD1).

Supervision

Each student is assigned to a supervisor who has research expertise in the chosen area of study. In the first year of study, students may enrol for a research methodology course that will provide formal training in research methods.

Applicants

Admission to the MPhil/PhD programme requires evidence of an ability to conduct research of high quality at postgraduate degree level. All entrants must possess a good first degree (normally first or upper second class) from a recognised university or institution of higher education.
