Dr. Richard Knapp is the Head of the Centre for Performance and Literature and his main area of interest is Shakespeare - particularly the role of Shakespeare as dramaturg and the adaptation of Shakespeare`s work by the Restoration dramatists - which was the research focus of his PhD and for his teaching on the MA in Shakespeare Studies at Swansea Metropolitan University. He is currently researching into a book on Theory and Theatre which is intended as an undergraduate introduction to the range of theoretical approaches which can be applied to both text and performance in theatre practice. Other areas of strong research interest include Modern British Drama, which was the subject of Dr Knapp`s MPhil thesis and his teaching, particularly the work of dramatist Edward Bond whose work Dr. Knapp has also explored as a director of student performances.
