Dr Ian Walsh BA(Hons), PhD, FRSA obtained his BA(Hons) in 3D Design from the University of Wales, Newport in 1988 and his PhD entitled ‘nurturing innovation in industrial design - quantifying innovation propensity in industrial design by means of a novel innovation trait index' from Swansea University in 2008.

Dr Walsh is currently Head of School of Swansea School of Industrial Design and the Welsh School of Architectural Glass at Swansea Metropolitan University. Ian has almost 20 years experience as a designer and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

Commercial experience includes mechanical design for Sony UK; furniture design for Remploy furniture group; industrial design for Domino Printing Science plc plus various other consultancy activities. Winner ‘New Designers' product design award in 1988; winner ‘Welsh Inventor of the Year' in 1990.

Academic experience includes the development and directorship of numerous courses in industrial and automotive design at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition he has undertaken extensive external activities including:
