Research in the School of Digital Media focuses on a range of contemporary issues in the design and application of 3D computer animation, computer games design, multimedia, and music technology. Key areas of interest include procedural animation, effects of the uncanny valley phenomenon in 3D animation and games design, pedagogical issues in the design and implementation of computer and video games, game design methodology, and the development of new student-assessment and evaluative techniques in emerging disciplines. The School also organises the annual international conference, Swansea Animation Days (SAND), which promotes collaboration between industry professionals and academics in all areas of digital media. SAND is very much an integral part of the School, consisting of the conference, screenings, professional workshops, seminars, industry recruitment panels and networking parties. See www.sand.org.uk.
