Since 2005, the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Centre (CIRIC) has collaborated on more than 130 creative research projects with Welsh businesses and provided tailor-made advice and guidance to over 275 of its members working across the creative sector in Wales. These creative practitioners represent disciplines as wide reaching as video, fine and applied art, architecture, photography and graphics. Each member has benefited from CIRIC's unique support package, which includes access to the latest digital technologies: laser cutting and etching, digital printing and video editing.

CIRIC is a Knowledge Transfer Centre, which acts as an umbrella organisation for several projects across several creative areas, one being the CIRIC design Bureau service. Additional projects at the planning stage and awaiting funding include digital media, textiles, creativity in business and science art and technology.

CIRIC was originally funded by The Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO), Swansea Metropolitan University and private sector finance to re-invigorate the creative industries sector within Wales. For too long creative practitioners have been forced to leave Wales to gain access to the necessary resources that are needed to further their practice. CIRIC aims to provide an environment that supports creativity and research in Video, Applied Arts, Textiles and other areas. We encourage high-level research and development, innovation and business success within the creative industries sector. We aim to assist and energize a cluster of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME‘s) by fostering research and development partnerships for the creation of high quality contemporary products, processes and services. CIRIC is creating a technology-rich, knowledge-based research infrastructure that will lead to a culture of entrepreneurship throughout the creative industries supply chain and transform attitudes across the Welsh economy as to the value of the creative industries.

Current staff research projects within CIRIC include the creation of a film by Steve Sullivan called ‘Ours, an installation at Liberty and new jewellery collection by Anna Lewis and experiments with needle punch textiles by Linda Nottingham. Other staff projects can be viewed on individual research pages.
