Angela Maddock is a Senior Lecturer with responsibilities for undergraduate contextual and historical studies programmes and supervision of dissertations. She was co-organiser of the Marking Space Symposium in 2008 and editor of the symposium catalogue. She has an MA in Fine Art and BA in Surface Pattern Design and BA in Modern European Studies. She has worked previously as a counsellor in the NHS, voluntary and private sectors and holds a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling. Her main interests are cloth-based media and contemporary and historical dialogues in traditional craft practices: most particularly themes of temporality, space/place, cathexis and embodiment. Currently she contributes to a developing International network on The Social Recluse: Medieval Anchoritism, under the leadership of Dr Liz Herbert McAvoy, Senior Lecturer in Gender and Medieval Literature at Swansea University and Professor Diane Watt at Aberystwyth University. Maddock's contribution to this work is concerned with the exploration of new audiences and the visual manifestation of the anchorhold and anchoritic experience. Angela Maddock was Free Range Textile Artist of the Year 2002.
