Andy trained in Cornwall at what is now Falmouth School of Art. The Universities of Wales and New York supervised his doctorate, awarded for his research into early and unrecorded airbrush history and image manipulation. He has been programme director of a diverse number of BA (Hons) degrees. These range from illustration to multimedia and, more recently, advertising design. Andy has also taught on the Fellow's programme at Kodak's International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House in Rochester, New York. Andy's work has been exhibited in Europe, America, Finland, South Africa and the UK and he is a consultant editor of Art Scene International magazine.

Andy is supervising at PhD level and is a research-active member of the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship (NCGE) and the Institute of Small Business and Enterprise (isbe). In 2006 Andy was nominated for two international awards for research papers including the Internationalizing Entrepreneurship Education and Training Annual Conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where a paper co-authored with Kathryn Penaluna won the prestigious ‘Best International Empirical Paper'.

In what he describes as a ‘career swerve’, Andy now Chairs the Higher Education Academy’s (HEA-BMAF) Special Interest Group in Entrepreneurial Learning and has been elected to Chair Enterprise Educators UK, a 90 University network, for 2010 / 2011. Unusually for a design educator, he is also an external examiner at Edinburgh Napier’s and Newcastle University’s Business Schools.  His appointment as Professor of Creative Entrepreneurship was made in recognition of his contribution to developing creative and innovative thinking in business contexts.

Research interests include media and image manipulation, photographic processes of the late 19th Century and, in more recent years, the parallel pedagogical strategies of design and entrepreneurship education.
