Introducing... Stuart

In the second of our 'Introducing' series, Stuart explains why he's joined us and what he hopes to achieve.

I used to work at Lotus so I’ve experience of CAD, CNC machine programming, assembly etc. but I’ve always been more into bikes than cars really so this year I decided to take that jump away from Lotus and into full time education.  I’m studying a BEng in Motorcycle Engineering but I’ve decided to get involved in the LocoBlade project as it’s a good team to work with – there’s lots of potential for gaining experience and getting involved in different things and it’s running a Fireblade engine too.

Long Hours & Hard Work? Yes please!

When the students from Swansea Metropolitan’s LocoBlade team aren’t busy designing, manufacturing and constructing their own race car, they’re busy getting involved in other race series’.

This week sees the final round of the World Rally Championship come to Wales bringing with it many opportunities for willing volunteers to get involved.  This year, four of the LocoBlade team will be working as scrutineers, meaning they will be involved in inspecting all of the WRC and National Rally cars.  Amongst other things, engineering students Glynn, Arwel, Jack and Shaun will be involved in checking that the noise levels the cars produce and the tyres used comply with the regulations..

Introducing... Aidan

Aidan is the first of our team members to receive the 'introducing' treatment.  This is what he had to say when we caught up with him earlier:

This is my first year at university and I’m studying Automotive Engineering BEng, I don’t have a lot of prior experience which is one of the reasons I chose to join the LocoBlade team – it’s a project that needs lots of work, there’s lots to be done on the car so I figure there’s more opportunity for me to get involved and get hands on experience.
