The Supply Chain Management Development Centre (SCMDC) was established in 1998 and is unique to south west Wales. Initially, the Centre was supported by funds from ERDF, but reflecting its commercial success and development over recent years, the Centre is now a fully independent consultancy firm. By pursuing a policy of working closely with local companies, and by co-operating, supporting and contributing to the work of local agencies such as the Welsh Development Agency, the Centre is being recognized as a centre of excellence in the development and promotion of Supply Chain Management techniques. Over its brief history the Centre has been involved with a wide range of local companies, providing consultancy advice on Lean Methodology principles, and, in particular, undertaking intensive market research surveys to help companies searching for new customers, markets or suppliers. In recognition of its growing expertise in Supply Chain developments, the Centre has been commissioned by both the Welsh Automotive Forum, and by the Welsh Electronics Forum to investigate the supply chain structures of the automotive and electronic manufacturing sectors in Wales.
