The Careers Service aims to enhance the employability of students and graduates of the University and to assist them in their career planning. ServicesYou should familiarise yourself with the service as soon as possible. Planning ahead is always a good idea.The Careers Adviser provides confidential information and guidance on topics related to career choice, which can help with your decision making. We aim to advise current students and graduates about career related issues, from making career choices to practical help with job hunting. Students have an opportunity to meet the Careers Adviser during induction week in their first year. Students may be seen later in their studies as part of their study group or via individual interview. The Careers Centre at SMU offers a range of services providing information, advice and support on career choice including: -
The Careers Service is able to arrange tailored support for students and graduates according to their needs, for example specialised interviews, workshops and talks. SMU Careers Service is a member of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), the collaborative body for HE careers professionals, the Welsh Higher Education Careers Services group (WHECS). SMU Careers Service is also a member of the South West Wales Higher Education Partnership (SWWHEP) The South West Wales Higher Education Partnership is a flagship collaboration project in Welsh Higher Education. Three higher education institutions (HEIs) in the South West Wales region are currently working closely together in an innovative partnership to integrate and enhance a range of services to students. The overall aim of the service is to create a network between the three Careers Centres and provide students from all three institutions with a collaborative resource for careers guidance. Enhanced student employability will be achieved through more effective engagement with local and national employers, and through utilising innovative technical solutions.
The Careers Service at SMU works in partnership with Graduate Opportunities Wales (GO Wales) . The GO Wales programme is managed by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and delivered in partnership with Higher Education Careers Services. GO Wales is a careers based initiative providing a number of services such as job vacancies, work experience tasters and placements and a Graduate Academy. It aims to help students and graduates make the best start to their career in Wales. You can view these services via the GO Wales website. Who can use the Careers Service at Swansea Metropolitan University?The Careers Service is available to prospective, current and former students of Swansea Metropolitan University and graduates of Higher Education institutions to help with their career planning. Career talks are organised by arrangement with the programmes of study. External organisations give presentations on employment, placements, voluntary and further study opportunities and attend Careers Fairs. |
