Entry Qualifications

GCSE's in English and Mathematics at Grade C or above (or equivalents).A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Divinity, Biblical Studies, or a Humanities or Combined Studies Degree in which the study of the world's major religions forms a considerably large component.All applicants must meet the Secretary of State's requirements for 'physical and mental fitness to teach'

Course Description

This one year full-time programme will provide the opportunity and experience for you to become competent in teaching Religious Education to pupils and students of all abilities in the 11-18 age range. It will provide you with an insight into the nature of being a professional teacher that will be the basis of subsequent and continuing professional development. The programme will also enable you to develop the skills and insight to be reflective, professional teachers in terms of your awareness concerning a full range of views on issues in Religious Education and education in general.

 

Tuition Fees and Learning Grants 2012/2013

PGCE Programmes - £9,000

Students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. Tuition fees will be paid for by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000 a year.

Eligible Welsh and non-UK EU domiciled students will be entitled to receive a fee grant to cover fees above £3,465. This grant is non-means-tested and does not have to be repaid.

Incentive grants available in Wales for new eligible students on PGCE Secondary and Primary courses in 2012 are as follows:

These incentives will be variable depending on degree qualification. Eligible postgraduate students with a first class degree will recieve the highest funding levels, with progressively lower amounts for those with a 2:1 or 2:2.

Special Features

The course will be taught through the medium of English but all handbooks and many handouts, power points, policies and procedures, and material available on Moodle, will be available in Welsh. Welsh speaking students may, if they wish, carry out teaching experience in a Welsh medium school (subject to availability). Students may submit all coursework in Welsh.
