Entry QualificationsGCSEs or equivalent in Mathematics and English at Grade C or above, plus a degree in at least one of the Modern Foreign Languages you wish to teach.We recruit students with French, French and German, French and Spanish, German and French, Spanish and French. Students offering mainly French with some Italian may be accepted, although a placement teaching Italian cannot be guaranteed. Native speakers should have a university degree, normally English.
Course Description
The course will train you to teach either one or two languages from French, German and Spanish to all ages and abilities from 11 to 18 - with optional primary specialism. Two thirds of the course is based in two schools for practical teaching experience (including Welsh medium if requested). Seminars and lectures at the Institute will provide you with the principles, practical ideas, resources and professional support for your teaching. The emphasis is on interaction, critical reflection, high linguistic levels, imagination and hard work! There are opportunities to develop subject knowledge through small group work with native speakers and ICT. A variety of working methods includes individual research, collaborative group work and a programme of Directed Time, which includes ICT, resources and reading. This course also offers an Optional Primary Specialsim.
Tuition Fees 2012/2013
PGCE Programmes - £9,000 Students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. Tuition fees will be paid for by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000 a year. Eligible Welsh and non-UK EU domiciled students will be entitled to receive a fee grant to cover fees above £3,465. This grant is non-means-tested and does not have to be repaid.
