Entry QualificationsIn order to qualify for the course, your degree may be in a computing subject, or any other subject which has involved a substantial amount of constructive use of IT to produce systems for others to use. You may have worked with complex document or presentation templates, handling databases, modelling with spreadsheets, programming, statistical analysis, web site design or graphic design, for instance. Alternatively, your IT background may be from work experience, in which case the subject of your degree is not important. In addition, you must have GCSEs or equivalent in Mathematics and English at Grade C or above. Course DescriptionThis one year full-time programme will equip trainees to teach ICT within the 11-16 age range in a variety of schools and colleges (including Welsh medium if requested). You will study various aspects of teaching IT to pupils, including lesson planning, resource preparation and selection, teaching approaches for examination courses, class management and control, assessment of attainment, and the impact of IT on learning. You will be assisted in developing the range of your IT knowledge and skills to cover all the content required for the National Curriculum, GCSE ICT, GCE 'A' level ICT and equivalent vocational courses. This will involve concept and skill development in word processing, database handling, modelling, graphics, measurement and control; principles of information flow through systems and the techniques of data capture, hardware, software, communications, basic system and file management; the social impact of IT. Approaches to teaching 'A' level Computing topics will also be covered. Part of your Curriculum Studies time will be spent working on content and teaching methods for Mathematics as a second subject, or on supporting teachers in using ICT across the curriculum. Tuition Fees 2012/2013PGCE Programmes - £9,000 Students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. Tuition fees will be paid for by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000 a year. Eligible Welsh and non-UK EU domiciled students will be entitled to receive a fee grant to cover fees above £3,465. This grant is non-means-tested and does not have to be repaid. These incentives will be variable depending on degree qualification.
