Entry Qualifications

GCSEs or equivalent in Mathematics and English at Grade C or above.

A degree in a subject suitably related to Design and Technology. This might include 3D & 2D design, furniture production management, furniture design, furniture & related product design, furniture restoration, jewellery restoration, jewellery making, product design, architecture, industrial architecture, landscape architecture, graphic & interior design, fine art, technology, materials science, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical & electronic engineering, structural engineering, food science or textiles and fashion.
Course Description
This one year full-time programme will equip trainees to teach Design & Technology within the 11-16 age range in a variety of schools and colleges (including Welsh medium if requested).
The course is devoted to developing theoretical and practical subject expertise through school experience placements, workshops, visits and obtaining guidance and experience in planning, delivering and assessing the 11-18 Design and Technology curriculum. Methodology and classroom management also feature prominently within the programme, along with developing a working knowledge of broader educational issues which collectively combine to produce informed, creative, innovative teachers of Design and Technology. Emphasis is also placed on the job-search process whereby you will gain experience in preparing for an interview for a Design and Technology position in a secondary school.

Tuition Fees and Learning Grants 2012/2013
PGCE Programmes - £9,000
Students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. Tuition fees will be paid for by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000 a year. Eligible Welsh and non-UK EU domiciled students will be entitled to receive a fee grant to cover fees above £3,465. This grant is non-means-tested and does not have to be repaid. These incentives will be variable depending on degree qualification. Eligible postgraduate students with a first class degree will recieve the highest funding levels, with progressively lower amounts for those with a 2:1 or 2:2.
