Entry QualificationsGCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English at Grade C or above, A levels (or equivalent) in chemistry and at least one other science subject (or maths) plus a degree in Chemistry or a subject with a substantial chemistry content. Course DescriptionThis one year full-time programme will equip trainees to teach Chemistry within the 11-16 age range in a variety of schools and colleges (including Welsh medium if requested). The course covers training in a wide variety of teaching techniques with opportunities to try ideas out in the partner schools. The course provides you with training to teach Chemistry up to the A and AS examinations and all the sciences up to at least Year 9 of the secondary school. The fundamental aims of the PGCE Chemistry programme are to develop the skills of a trainee Chemistry/Science teacher who is able to reflect on practice gained through teaching experience in school; who can analyse that experience in the light of discussion with mentors and others and also in the light of their reading; and evaluate their practice effectively to demonstrate gradual improvement in the standards of their own teaching and pupils' learning. Tuition Fees and Learning Grants 2012/2013PGCE Programmes - £9,000 Students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. Tuition fees will be paid for by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000 a year. Eligible Welsh and non-UK EU domiciled students will be entitled to receive a fee grant to cover fees above £3,465. This grant is non-means-tested and does not have to be repaid. Special FeaturesThe course will be taught through the medium of English but all handbooks and many handouts, power points, policies and procedures, and material available on Moodle, will be available in Welsh. Welsh speaking students may, if they wish, carry out teaching experience in a Welsh medium school (subject to availability). Students may submit all coursework in Welsh.
