Entry qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade C or above or equivalents.

• A degree in Business Studies or a degree with a significant proportion of Business Studies units/modules plus relevant experience.

• Competence in using ICT (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, presentation packages and the internet) is usually expected.

• All applicants must meet the Secretary of State's requirements for 'physical and mental fitness to teach'.

Course Description

This one year full-time programme will equip trainees to teach Business Studies within the 11-18 age range in a variety of schools and colleges (including Welsh medium). In particular, trainees will prepare to teach A, AS and GCSE Business Studies, BTEC and Applied Business Studies and a range of related subjects which might include administration, ICT, leisure subjects, public administration and vocational courses. Trainees will also prepare to support the development of Enterprise skills in young people through support of Enterprise competitions and initiatives.

Trainees are encouraged to refine and enhance their Business Studies knowledge and skills through a variety of theoretical and practical sessions. Planning, teaching and learning, assessment and classroom management issues are integrated into the course in order to help develop lively and creative teachers of Business Studies.

Tuition Fees 2012/2013

PGCE Programmes - £9,000

Students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. Tuition fees will be paid for by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000 a year. Eligible Welsh and non-UK EU domiciled students will be entitled to receive a fee grant to cover fees above £3,465. This grant is non-means-tested and does not have to be repaid.
