Entry Qualifications• GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade C or above. • A degree in a biological science subject in which a significant proportion of the units/modules are biological. • A Level (or equivalent) passes in two of: Biology, Chemistry, Physics (or undergraduate units/modules with a significant number of them in lieu). • Competence in using ICT (e.g. word processing, database, spreadsheet, e-mail, www) is usually expected. Course DescriptionThis course will train you to teach Biology up to the A and AS examinations and all the sciences up to at least year 9 (Key stage 3) of the secondary school. To lead Field Study in the numerous outstanding locations in South Wales . The focus is on planning effective lessons, teaching methods, the role of practical work and other activities, class management and control, assessing pupils' progress, together with a knowledge of how people learn, the applications of science in society and the role of information technology to support your teaching. Tuition Fees 2012/2013PGCE Programmes - £9,000 Students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. Tuition fees will be paid for by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000 a year. Eligible Welsh and non-UK EU domiciled students will be entitled to receive a fee grant to cover fees above £3,465. This grant is non-means-tested and does not have to be repaid. These incentives will be variable depending on degree qualification. Eligible postgraduate students with a first class degree will recieve the highest funding levels, with progressively lower amounts for those with a 2:1 or 2:2.
