Programme Design

The aim of this programe is to allow students the opportunity to creatively and imaginatively explore contemporary opportunities in interactive digital media. You are given all the necessary knowledge and skills to develop innovative work in the fields of web design, video, sound design, and mobile applications. Emphasis is placed on the development of a methodology based around principles of user-centred design. The IDM team are members of the iPhone Developer Program.

Programme Structure

You are encouraged to explore and develop your ideas utilising the latest computer technologies and software. Student learning is practice-based, and the degree culminates in a personally directed project which highlights your preferred specialist area and provides the centrepiece of your portfolio as you move into the workplace.

Employment Opportunities

The School of Digital Media has excellent links with new media companies both locally and nationally. Through dialogue with industry and the application of cutting-edge developments in new media, graduates from this programme are equipped to enter the industry as fully-fledged practitioners. Potential areas of employment might include: DVD/Web/interface designer, UX Designer/User-Experience Manager, web editor, iPhone "app" developer, etc.

Entry Requirements

All candidates are invited to the Faculty for an informal interview. Candidates who bring a portfolio of visual work, digital or traditional, will have an advantage. All candidates must normally fulfil at least one of the following requirements:

Normally at least 200 UCAS Tariff points in appropriate subjects with GCSE grade C in Mathematics and English.

  • Advanced GNVQ in an appropriate subject.

  • AVCE in an appropriate subject.

  • Edexcel/BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in Design.

  • NVQ Leval 3 in an appropriate subject.

  • Modern apprenticeship Level 3 vocational qualifications.

  • Other equivalent qualifications (e.g. International and European Baccalaureates, City and Guilds, SCOTVEC awards).

Advanced Entry

Appropriate HND or HNC qualifications will enable direct entry to Year 2 of the programme.
