Programme Design

This new programme complements the highly successful animation programmes already delivered in the School of Digital Media. It has been created through extensive dialogue with industry leaders such as Codemasters and Electronic Arts. Our strong links with these companies have enabled us to design a programme which will produce highly skilled computer games artists who are well prepared for future trends in this fast paced media.

Programme Structure

The programme is approximately 80% practical, using industry standard software from the start of the programme. Previous experience of using computers is not necessary as everyone is introduced to the basic principles of computer games design when they first start the course.
The programme culminates with the third year Major Project which enables you to pull together all the elements of your previous two years of study to produce a professional interactive showpiece.

Employment Opportunities

Computer games is a major growth industry worth billions of pounds every year. The UK is a significant player in this field. The programme prepares you for this industry and gives you the opportunity to create an excellent showreel by the end of your studies which will help you get a foot in the door. To this end, we have an annual conference, Swansea Animation Days (SAND). SAND 2007 had speakers from Electronic Arts, Blitz and Codemasters, all of whom were able to speak to our students during the event.
