School of Industrial Design

The School looks out across the lively city centre and Swansea Bay. It has access to excellent facilities including dedicated design studios and well- equipped prototyping workshops and every student is guaranteed a personal studio workspace. You can gain experience of working with wood, metal, plastics, glass and ceramics, automotive styling clay, and the latest versions of industry standard 3D design and visualisation software such as Autodesk AliasStudio, Solidworks and Adobe CS4. This is linked to CAD/CAM, Stereolithography and Z-Corp rapid prototyping facilities.

Swansea graduates exhibit their work each year at the prestigious National Waterfront Museum in Swansea and at other national exhibitions. This gives our students the opportunity to exhibit their work before a national audience. Final year students prepare for their launch into the highly competitive graduate marketplace with the Marketing and Self- Promotion module, and all students are encouraged to protect and exploit their intellectual property through entrepreneurial initiatives.

The wide range of skills and experience gained at Swansea have helped our graduates forge successful careers across Europe working with companies including Ford, Lego, Jaguar, Walls, Land Rover, Ecophon, IBM, Britax, Aston Martin, Hasbro, ProDrive, Pinnanfarina, Naked Design, Native Design and Nova Design (Taipei).

There is a worldwide market for creative talent and the design industry offers a wide spectrum of exciting employment opportunities. We ensure that our students are fully prepared for this through study visits abroad. Part of our mission is to help you develop beyond the design studio. Each year our students have the opportunity to travel overseas, to experience new cultures and expand their creative horizons. Destinations have included Barcelona, Milan, Paris, Stuttgart and New York!
