Duration: 2 Years This part-time course provides a strong academic base for trainee Technician Civil Engineers in the construction industry. The programme is, initially, broad based to provide students with the knowledge expected of a technician employed within the industry. Academic study will be supplemented by practical laboratory work in materials testing, surveying field work and computer aided draughting. Opportunity is offered in later stages to develop more advanced skills in relation to a chosen field of Civil Engineering such as structural design, hydraulics and highway construction. Civil Engineering Technicians could find employment as construction managers, highway superintendants, highway designers, clerk of works, laboratory technicians, construction industry specialist or project managers. Assessment This course satisfies the educational requirements for entry into the Institution of Civil Engineers as a Technician Member. Satisfactory completion of a two or three year period of Initial Professional Development and professional review report enables diplomats to use the designation TMICE. Student Experience Modules
