Programme Design

This course is relevant to those wishing to gain proficiency in the development of software solutions in a commercial or industrial environment. Software Engineering applies the principles and discipline of engineering to software development and students accepted onto this course will study these concepts from the beginning, starting with requirements analysis and following on with subjects related to system design and implementation. Students who achieve at least two Merits in Year two will be eligible to proceed onto Year two of the Schoolís Software Engineering honours degree programme.

Students aspiring to a career in the computer games industry can proceed onto Year two of the Schoolís BSc in Computer Games Development if they have successfully achieved Merits in Year two modules including the Games Physics and Maths module.

Programme Structure

The course is delivered over two years, through taught units with a high level of practical work. Placement opportunities may arise for interested students.

Employment Opportunities

Successful students from the course will hold a nationally recognised qualification appropriate for jobs within the identified skills shortage areas of Information Technology. Students will be equipped to take up a range of positions in the areas of Analysis, Systems Development, Programming, Network Administration and Network Programming.

Entry Requirements

80 UCAS tariff points to include a D grade at A-Level/AVCE; or
BTEC National Diploma/Certificate/Award - Pass; or
NVQ Level 3 - Pass.

Please note that subjects at Advanced Level should/may include Maths, ICT, Physics or similar.
GCSE Maths grade C or above is preferred.

Other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Academic Board will also be considered.
