Landlords wishing to advertise their properties through the University can do so at http://accommodation.smu.ac.uk.
Landlords will be able to set up an account for themselves and upload photographs of their houses for students to view. Swansea Metropolitan University's Accommodation Office manage the site and check the property details for HMO Licensing and Gas Safety Certification.
To apply to register a property, simply click on 'Create Account' which is in the top right hand corner of the home screen on the website (http://accommodation.smu.ac.uk). Here you will be able to input your details which students can use to contact you. Once you have created an account you will be emailed a unique password which you will be asked to change the first time you log in. If you click then on the 'Landlord Sign In' option in the top right hand corner of the home screen you will then be able to add your properties. You will also be able to make amendments at any time to any of your properties through the website.
When is the best time to register? Students in halls of residence at the University usually start looking for properties in January each year If you have registered with the University previously the Accommodation Department will contact you towards the end of November to find out if you wish to register again for the next academic year. A Landlords Fair will also be held at the start of January on the Townhill Campus, all landlords who register with the University will be invited to come along and meet our students. Advertising at this time also gives your property maximum exposure during the peak times when students are looking for accommodation which is between the months of February and April. We also experience a late rush towards the end of August once our halls of residence are full to capacity.
How much does it cost to register? The fee for registering your properties with the University is £40 for up to 3 properties with a fee of £10 for each additional property after that. It is a condition of registration that a valid Landlord’s gas safety certificate is provided for each advertised property that has gas appliances. All properties which require a HMO certificate will be checked against the HMO Public Register at the City and County of Swansea. The Accommodation Department reserves the right to refuse entry of any property onto the list that does not meet the criteria.
