Halls of Residence - Eligibility Criteria PDF Print E-mail

As a result of the high demand for Halls of Residence accommodation as well as the limited amount of rooms we have available on site all students must meet certain eligibility criteria before they are able to apply.

A student will be able to apply for a place on campus provided they are;

Full time, first year students:
The Accommodation team will allocate all rooms in halls initially to first years in order to give them the opportunity to adjust to university life at their own pace. Students will then benefit from sharing accommodation on campus with others in the same situation in a safe and secure environment.

Living outside of 40 miles of the University:
During the allocation process, the accommodation department staff will hold a list of postcodes which are within a 40 mile radius of the university campus. If your postcode is on this list you may not be able to apply initially for a place in halls. If a situation does arise where we have a shortage of applicants then this rule will be relaxed in order to fill the remaining rooms on site.

Under the age of 25:
As the majority of applicants for halls of residence are 18 or 19 year olds, mature students may prefer to share a student property instead of living in a halls of residence environment. Students over the age of 25 are encouraged to contact the accommodation office who will be able to assist you.

Holding an Unconditional Firm offer:
No student can apply for a place in halls unless they are holding a confirmed place on their course. Half of the rooms on campus are reserved until after the A Level results are known to be fair to those students who must wait for their results to come in.

Please be aware that even if students meet all of the above criteria this does not guarantee them a place on campus as the amount of applicants often exceed the amount of rooms available. The typical amount of applicants who are successful in achieving a place in halls is 75%.

If students have any queries regarding the above, please contact the Accommodation Department on 01792 482086.
