How do I apply for Halls of Residence? PDF Print E-mail

Undergraduates

All students who are eligible to apply for a place in our halls of residence will be able to do so from the first week of June. The application process could not be easier; you can fill in the form online, and let the Accommodation Department know your requirements and preferences for a room on campus. Invitation emails will be sent out to all students who are eligible to apply from the 1st June.

Please be advised that due to the demand for Halls of Residence and the limited amount of places available all students must meet certain criteria before they are eligible to apply. Please read the section 'Halls of Residence - Eligibility Criteria' to check if you meet the requirements. If you do not meet the criteria please contact the Accommodation Department on 01792 482086 who will be able to assist you.

Once you receive your invitation email to apply for accommodation you will then be provided with the weblink to our online application system. You will be asked to set up a username and password before completing the form.  Please be advised that submission of an application form does not guarantee a place in halls of residence.

Once the completed accommodation application form has been received by the Accommodation Department we will attempt to match your requirements depending on availability.

When an allocation has been made the Accommodation Department will then make you an offer of a room and you can either accept or decline the offer through the online system. The offer will have a date for you to respond. If you do not accept the offer within the deadline date the room may be offered to another student. You are advised to read through the Halls of Residence rules and regulations as these are the terms and conditions you will be agreeing to during your stay on campus. It is very important that you read this document carefully. You must complete and sign the declaration and return it to the Accommodation Officer together with a cheque for £250.00 (2010-2011 rates) damage deposit, which is refundable at the end of the licence period, minus damages or outstanding accommodation fees. No reservation will be confirmed without payment of this fee.

Once the Accommodation Department have received both your deposit and declaration form we will then confirm your place in halls of residence and send you through your arrival instructions and payment details.

If you are unsuccessful in receiving an allocation on campus the Accommodation Department will forward information on privately rented accommodation.

When the halls of residence are full, we will open up a waiting list, if after a few weeks you decide you would like to live on campus you can apply, rooms usually become available around mid October. We believe this is a more sensible approach for students living locally rather than entering into a legally binding contract.

Accommodation for Disabled Students

A number of rooms at Swansea Metropolitan University have been modified for disabled students within some residences.

When you receive the application form, you will then have the opportunity to tell us about any special needs that might affect the type of accommodation you require.

Your case will need to be assessed by our Disability Adviser who will then inform the Accommodation Office about your accommodation.
