Information for students applying for a Student Visitor Visa from outside the UK PDF Print E-mail

 

If you are a Visa National and wish to come to the UK to study for less than 6 months you will need to apply for a Student Visitor Visa.

Non Visa Nationals wishing to come to the UK to study for less than 6 months will not normally need a visa to come to the UK as a student visitor - but you may want to consider applying for entry clearance if you have previously been refused entry to the UK.

To be eligible for a Student Visitor Visa you must be 18 or over and have been accepted on a course of study by an education provider that holds a sponsor licence under Tier 4 of the points-based system.

How to apply for a Student Visitor Visa from outside the UK

You can apply in a number of ways, for example, by post, by courier, in person and online. Application forms are available at Visa Application Centres, where staff can advise you on the process. Find your nearest Visa Application Centre

Alternatively you can download an application form from the UK Border Agency website. The form you require is a VAF1D - Student Visitor. Or see if you can apply on line.

Conditions of your Student Visitor Visa

During your visit you must:

  • Support and pay for accommodation for yourself and any dependants, without help from public funds;

  • Ensure that you and your dependants will be supported and accommodated by relatives or friends,

  • Leave the UK at the end of the visit and be able to meet the cost of your return or onward journey.

You must not:

  • Take employment in the UK (including part-time or full-time vacation employment);

  • Undertake a work placement or internship (paid or unpaid) as part of your course of study;

  • Extend your stay in the UK;
