However, our offers are not solely based on academic results and we take individual skills, achievements and life experience into consideration. English Language

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES (NQF LEVEL 6 AND ABOVE)

Applicants are required to have achieved one of the following in order to meet the University's English language entry requirement for programmes at degree level or above:

• Confirmation that you have achieved CEFR Level B2 in an English language test which is equivalent to a minimum of IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking. For further details please click here.
• Confirmation that you have successfully completed a course in the medium of English within 2 years prior to the start of your course at SMU, and have achieved a level of English equivalent to CEFR Level B2 in reading, writing, listening and speaking at the end of the course.
• Confirmation that you are a national from a majority English speaking country. For further information please see http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/adult-students/can-you-apply/english-language/
• Confirmation that you have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree which was taught in English in a majority English speaking country (including the UK).
• Confirmation that you have recently successfully completed a course in the UK as a child student under Tier 4 or its predecessor route.

• Documentary evidence of English language must accompany all applications.

 ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HND PROGRAMMES AND FOUNDATION ART & DESIGN PROGRAMME (BELOW NQF LEVEL6):

Applicants are required to have achieved one of the following in order to meet the University's English language entry requirement for HND level programmes and the Foundation Art & Design programme:

• Confirmation that you have completed a UKBA Secure English language test and have achieved CEFR Level B2 which is equivalent to IELTS 6.0 overall and a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking. •  Documentary evidence of English language must accompany all applications. 

Degree Programmes

For entry onto undergraduate degree programmes at SMU applicants must have the following:

• The equivalent to two A level passes.
• Relevant English language qualification (please see English language section above for further information).

• A fully certified transcript must accompany applications.

Postgraduate (MSc/MA/MBA/PGCE) programmes

For entry onto the above postgraduate programmes at SMU applicants must have the following:

• The equivalent to a UK BA(Hons) degree in relevant subject area.
• Relevant English language qualification (please see English language section above for further information).

• A fully certified transcript must accompany applications.

For some programmes such as Art and Design programmes, applicants may be required to show a portfolio of work in addition to submitting their application form and supporting documents.
