Programme Philosophy

To encourage creative automotive designers able to explore new forms of transport that address fundamental personal and social needs.

Programme Design

This exciting programme addresses the design of vehicles and transportation systems through investigations involving studios, workshops and the use of computer-aided design tools. You will develop and explore your role and creativity in the design, human, technological, commercial and ideological spheres. The programme covers the use of visual and physical elements in design, with emphasis placed on idea and form development, visual organisation, construction, understanding materials, and considering how people draw meaning from form.

The final outcome will be determined by the generation of vehicle propositions that address fundamental human transportation needs. You are taught how to create professional models both in automotive clay and on CAD. These will be supported by written submissions exploring the theoretical and strategic basis from which the concepts flow.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of this programme possess both traditional and digital design skills. With professional, conceptual, clay modelling and visualisation abilities, employment opportunities exist in a wide range of fields. All of the programmes in the School of Industrial Design exhibit student work in the major graduate design and recruitment exhibitions each year in London.
