Programme Description

This postgraduate programme has been designed to provide graduates and experienced personnel with the knowledge, management skills and specialist expertise required to become a successful Facilities Manager. Facilities Management is a comprehensive approach to the provision, management and maintenance of buildings, combined with the management of people and essential services that support an organisation's main activities. To achieve this facility managers need to be proactive in understanding core business objectives and develop effective strategies and processes to meet the objectives. They need to be innovative in meeting best practice energy benchmarks and best value targets to improve building performance, and to maximise workplace productivity in large and complex buildings. Further, it is essential they are aware of issues such as environmental impact and sustainability.

To do this they need to agree contracts and interact with multi-disciplinary teams of support staff. This will require leadership qualities, commercial awareness, communication skills, team building abilities and an understanding of the unique nature of sustainable building and construction processes.
