The Centre for Lens Arts and Science Interaction CLASI

BioSCIART

This interdisciplinary research area investigates the interface between bioscience and the arts. Building on collaborations with Cardiff School of Bioscience, Guy’s/KCL, and the Waag Centre for Culture and Technology. The projects included in this area have had major support from The Wellcome Trust, The Arts & Humanities Research Council, The Arts Council of Wales and The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, to explore, research, develop, exhibit, tour and publish a series of artists interventions into normally closed and exclusive spaces such as the Dissecting Room, the Anatomical Museum, the Hospital Operating Theatre, and the Medical Research Laboratory. The research is being led by Karen Ingham (the 2005/6 AHRC Sciart Research Fellow at Cardiff School of Biosciences), exploring the links between brain dysfunction, memory, and plant pharmaceuticals. Outputs include ‘Death’s Witness’ (Ffotogallery 2000), ‘Anatomy Lessons’ (Dewi Lewis Publishing 2004), ‘Vanitas’ in ‘Stilled’ (IRIS/Ffotogallery 2006). For the publication Seeds of Memory:art, neuroscience and botany' go to Publications.
